About TUG

Our Mission

The Uptown Group (TUG) unites young professionals and community members who are passionate about advancing the principles and goals of The Community House and actively engages "the next generation" through fun and innovative social events, cultural programs and community outreach.

Why The Community House?

The Community House is not only itself a non-profit organization that offers programming and events appealing to our members, but it is also a house for many other non-profits and a perfect venue for social gatherings. As a non-profit sponsored group of The Community House, TUG members are able to better connect with their community.

Why Join TUG?

Many younger professionals and families are drawn to the communities surrounding The Community House; however, once here, they seek a way to really become connected and ingrained into their new communities. Others who have lived in the area for some time now seek a way to give back to their community and make some new connections.

TUG provides our members the opportunity to truly feel like a valued member of a non-profit organization, give back to their community, obtain leadership skills that are invaluable to the workplace, and, perhaps most importantly, make some great new friends.

How so, you ask?

First, TUG recognizes the busy schedules of our members and their families and therefore affords our members flexibility and many different opportunities to stay involved. Members have the opportunity to meet monthly to learn about how they may get involved in planning or volunteering for events. Our meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month from 6-7 pm at The Community House. After each meeting, many of our members get together for a social happy hour at a local bar or restaurant.

Our annual events include the popular Boo Blast Road Rally, the Kids Walk for Kids Charity Walk, the Orchard’s Night holiday party for foster children, and quarterly social networking events for all members and prospective members. Many of our members also volunteer to support The Community House's planned events and outreach committees, including Our Town, the Green Breeze, the Storytellers Guild, and House Tour. In addition, members are encouraged to offer up and lead other volunteer, social, or cultural events.

"TUG provides an ideal forum in which to engage with the community.  Not only have I been able to participate in and lead fundraising events, but I have also had the opportunity to connect with leaders and professionals within our community that I would not otherwise have met.  Moreover, having the freedom to choose one's level of involvement made membership immediately appealing to me."
